Grade II listed Charlton Terrace

We were impressed right from the start with the architects’ ability to really listen to what it was we were trying to achieve when greatly extending a grade II listed house. Not only did they come up with a bold and aesthetically very pleasing design, they also showed great understanding and respect towards the fabric of the original building. What’s more, they made the whole planning application process look smooth and easy, which I put down to their excellent drawings and accompanying notes as well as their intimate knowledge of local planning particularities.

A late Georgian house, situated in Charlton Terrace, the home offers a unique and captivating living experience in the heart of the charming conservation area of Tonbridge. Dating back to 1840, this Grade II listed property has been fully refurbished and includes an Esti Buesa Diaz designed contemporary kitchen/dining room extension across the rear that opens onto a secluded garden.

AV architects then recommended just the right builder to us: one who would let me project manage the build and chip in wherever my (limited) skills allowed. Imagine our incredulity when the build actually came in on budget! Despite us having opted for managing the project ourselves the architects continued to show a very keen interest in its progress and would assist with their wealth of knowledge when needed.

To sum it up: through AV architects we ended up with a fantastic space which exceeded all our wildest dreams and continues to put a smile on our face every single day. We cannot recommend the practice’s friendly professionalism, competence, and client focussed approach highly enough. Would we change anything if we were doing it all over again? Not one bit!
